First Ice, Whati

CA$2,000.00

46 cm height X 41 cm width . Water colour on stretched wooden supports. Framing not necessary.

On a trip to Whati on the new ‘all-season road’ this fall the ice was forming but not quite frozen on all the lakes as we sped past. Arriving in the community of Whati a four hour drive from Yellowknife, the wind was walloping us and made image taking cold. This image is of the Whati Lake when the sun was setting at about 3:30. Ice is forming and a lovely reflection of the setting sun occurred. The lake is the communities’s source of large trout. I was gifted with some from someone’s freezer. No doubt once the ice freezes nets will be set for winter fishing. A very important source of fresh food.
